Broken and Weary

When Christ says, “Come to me all who are heavy laden and weary.” in Matthew 11, there isn’t exceptions from the rule. It doesn’t matter what has caused the weariness, how weary you may be- this is a command. Come to Him. Come to Him with your exhaustion and aguish. He is here for you to rest.

As often as I read that over and over again sometimes it is easy to think that this applies to every other person other than me. I am not sure why it is easy to take myself out of that equation but I do. I do it quickly and without a second glance. This brings me to the lack of self awareness I think sometimes we have as leaders. It is so easy for us to want to protect, encourage and walk alongside anyone else that is weary themselves. The second we have to do the work ourselves we seem to quickly do our best to move on.

What happens when we have to sit in that? What happens when we can’t move on?

The exact same thing. We come to Christ- even when we are leading a group of people and our sin nature says we should be able to handle whatever it is ourselves. He doesn’t want that for us- and in fact when we do our best to deal with things on our own we increase the amount of weary we already currently are.

He means it, we need to now start believing it.
